Room 16 Website

Leadership Notebooks:

On Tuesday and Wednesday of next week, we will be setting up our leadership notebooks.  Each student will need a one inch three ring binder with a clear plastic cover for their cover page and tabbed binder dividers.  Some of you have already purchased these items and have brought them in.  If not, please bring them in on your next face-to-face day, (Tuesday or Wednesday).  If you are havingtrouble purchasing these items, please let me know this weekend.

Welcome to Room 16!!!

I am so excited to start a new school year and get to know all the students and their families!    This page will provide general information about classroom procedures, expectations, upcoming important events, etc.  Below are a few classroom expectations that will remain on this page for you to reference.  I also have pages for each subject that I will update on a daily basis starting on week 3 so you will know exactly what your child has been learning each day.  There is a page that tells more about me as well as a contact page with my contact information.  There are links to web sites, our daily schedule and a calendar so you will know what is going on.

Remind 101

This AWESOME technology will allow me to send text messages as reminders to parents and students! To, sign up, follow these instructions.  Our class code is:

8dh2d8d

How do I join a class?      You can join a class or school to receive Remind messages via text, email, or push notification (or any combination of these).

  1. To get text notifications:
    • Join by text:
Participants text a unique class or school code to a Remind phone number. For U.S teachers, the Remind number is 81010. For example, if you wanted to join a class with the class code @math, you would text @math to 81010.
    • Join online:
Visit remind.com/join and enter the class or school code along with your mobile phone number. You'll get text notifications at the number you entered.
  2. Get mobile app notifications.
Download the mobile app for iOS and Android devices and create a new account (or log in if you already have one.) To join a class, tap the by Classes Joined and either join with your class code or search for your class. You'll automatically get app notifications.
  3. Get email notifications.
    • Join online:
Visit remind.com/join and enter the class or school code and your email address.
    • Join from your inbox:
Send a blank email to code@mail.remind.com. (If the class code were @math, for example, you'd send a blank email to math@mail.remind.com.) You'll get a response with more instructions.

If you don't have a class code, you can log in to your account to search for your class.

Please note: school codes are available only for users on a Remind School or District Plan.

Snacks and Water:

It is important for students to stay hydraded throughout the day.  Therefore, each student is encouraged to bring a water bottle to school.  Only plain water will be allowed (no flavored, carbonated water, etc) unless there is a specific medical reason.  Waterbottles will also need to have a lid or cap to prevent messy spills. We will also have time for snack every day.  Please send a healthy snack every day.  Snacks that are high in suger or fat will cause regression in learning.

End of the Day:

I realize that there are times when students need to leave early for Dr. appointments, Dentist appointments, etc.  However, our school day ends at 4:07 and instruction is still taking place until 3:55 EVERY DAY...EVEN ON FRIDAY.   In the past, room 16, has had an average at least 2 calls every day  for students to leave early.  These calls happen anytime between 2 and 4.  Each time a student is called down to leave early, not only are they missing important instruction, but  the learning is disrupted for the rest of the students.  Several minutes of  valuable learning time  is lost every time a call comes to have a student leave early.  Again, I understand that there are times when taking your child early is necessary, but 2 calls every day during instruction has a negative  effect on learning.  PLEASE try to schedule appointments outside school hours when possible and only pick up your child early for necessary appointments.   If you must pick up your child early, please send a note or an e-mail so I can make sure your child is ready to leave.

Homework Returned:

When homework comes home, there may be notes or green circles around concepts/problems that need to be looked at again.  I encourage students to correct any mistakes or get extra help if needed.  I may also put "see me" on their homework.  This doesn't necessarily mean a problem is incorrect.  Sometimes it's just more efficient to talk with a student. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Toys:

I believe that play is an important part of learning and toys are tools for play.  Home is an appropriate place to play with toys.  Students will have lots of opportunities to learn in many creative ways in school this year and toys from home tend to take away from learning rather than add to it.  Toys from home will not be allowed in the classroom.  If students choose to bring toys to school, they will be asked to keep them in their backpack or I will keep them in my top desk drawer until the end of the day.  Students may ask for them back at the end of the day after other students have been dismissed.  Outdoor toys such as balls and jump ropes may be brought in for outdoor recess use only.  They must remain in the coat rack area or in a backpack while inside.  Thank you for your cooperation.
